Enemy Identified- Chryseis Shard 01

So batrep 2 of 2 from yesterday begins,
Given neither of us own freeborn (yet.....those models are gorgeous!!), I opted to be the defender with my Algoryn taking the place of the plucky freeborn force. Ian used his Concord and we ran it at the suggested 750pts.
I had to use literally what I had in my case as I'd shifted a few bits out to make room for the Ghar for my other batrep, so it wasn't exactly perfect, I felt I was likely to be heavily outgunned so I just went for the old trick of lots of boys and making them more resilient, knowing i was going to have to endure several turns of relentless attack.
My List was:
5 man Command squad with medi drone (Commander Chak'sa)
5 man AI squad with extra micro-x, leader gun and slingnet + spotter
5 man AI squad with extra micro-x and leader gun
7 man Assault squad (Led by Tuk-Rath)
7 man Infiltrator squad with solar charges, camo and spotter drones (Led by Dal'eth)
Medic team

I was torn on which teams to go down first, but went with the idea of the infiltrators (minefield to cover an advance and very resilient with camo drone) the Command squad thanks to their medi-drone and high LD for those rally checks I figured I'd be making and eventually decided on the medic team for the extra RES re-rolls. Although I'd have preferred the extra bodies of having the assault squad down, in hindsight, it was the right choice as the assault squad were the perfect siege-relief force and the medics made every point of their 30 spent back in heals!! Ghar Flitter drones were used as the Chrysies drones and to be fair, had very little impact on the game barring the corruption of a battered and beaten C3 bike unit.

My central deployment, infiltrators covering west and south; Minefield to north, Command covering east.
Commander Chak'sa signalled an all-channels alert; "multiple hostile units inbound, all forces back to base ASAP!!" He looked ominously at the recon feeds as C3 forces approached from multiple angles and looked at the position of his own troops, scattered and fragmented. It was a fucking disaster waiting to happen. "take up defensive positions boys, Hold the line, shit is gonna start getti....."
A blast of Plasma fire erupted from the troopers to his right, aiming down sights at the C3 scout bikes that had blundered into line of fire. "..real" He muttered to himself as he launched a salvo of plasma down-range too. The bikes were swift to reply, blowing a neat hole in the defensive barricades they'd taken up positions behind, the medi-drone attending to the wounded trooper in short order, returning him to the fight. The medics moved to the central ground, keenly aware if they died, the rest of the force would too and loosed a few pistol shots at the bikes, scratching the paintwork but causing no lasting damage. Bouyed by the opening of the battle, the Chryseis drones scouted around, investigating the participating forces and interrogating their shards for weaknesses.
Chak'sa glared at the visuals in his battle HUD, the C3 arrived in droves, squads rapidly taking positions in the northern ruins, eastern ruins and northwestern ruins, right in their weak points, ready to enfilade fire into his now, brutally exposed flank. In their haste to take the enfilade position, the C3 had blundered into the infiltrators well-hidden minefield and it lit up with the serial detonation of their charges, pinning the fatigued troopers as they hit the deck to avoid the falling debris and shrapnel. "Give em hell boys!!" Chak'sa bellowed as the Infiltrators dropped their camouflage, ripping the bike squad to shreds. Two of the bikers fell to the salvo and their leader drew the attention of the bizarre Chrysies drone, falling prey to its nanophage.
The eastern flank turned to chaos, further C3 infantry reinforcements appearing and lacing Chak'sa's position with deadly fire "GET DOWN" he bellowed into the comms channel, plasma bursts roiling as they impacted and shattered the rusty barricades. The medic team assisted, tending to the wounds the drone couldn't get to before drawing heavy fire from an enfilade and ducking for cover themselves.
"Where the fuck are my reinforcements?!?!" Chak'sa tried to shout, but nothing could be hear over the din of the incoming fire. His suit's persona calmly answered his query, "1.2 standard minutes until reinforcements arrive sir, allowing for an average....." He killed the response with a thought, "fucking thing...."
With a brutal salvo still raining down on their position, Chak'sa and his men hugged the metalwork for dear life, his poor medic team looked for a way off the platform but held their nerve under fire, trying as best they could to tend to the wounds of the command squad with their nano-gels in between burst of fire. Sergeant Dal'eth surveyed the scene and willed his team of infiltrators into action; seeing the C3 on their eastern flank advance on Chak'sa under covering fire he dropped their imago screen and formed a firing line from their elevated position, gutting two of the C3 and forcing them back into the cover of the ruins. Their brave attempt to relieve the pressure on the command squad drew the attention of the gun drone attachment advancing from the south and Dal'eth couldn't manoeuvre quick enough before a fiery plasma burst enveloped his squad. Two fell immediately but a couple more were saved by the timely intervention of Chak'sa's medi drone and the medic team.
All hell breaks loose with attacks from all angles, a desperate defence is mounted, but will they hold?
One of the barricades finally fell to the sustained enfilade, new fire this time from the north as the C3 command show themselves. One of Chak'sa's men was instantly vaporised along with the medi-drone. Chak'sa cursed, checking his battle HUD, his fears of imminent death suddenly lifted as the unmistakable sound of mag-repeater fire and D-spinner discharged rattled from behind the new incoming fire which was suddenly silenced.
Sargent Tuk-rath cheered as he led the charge! "Chak'sa, this is Tuk-rath on your Northern flank, designate targets and sit-rep as able"
"Halle-fucking-luyah!! Two squads, one west, 2nd floor. One east, 2nd and 3rd floor. Any time this week would be fucking lovely!!"
Dal'eth cheered as further reinforcements arrive to the North and to the West, the western squad too far from the fight to help this turn, but the arrival of friendlies was enough to focus the mind on fighting back, rather than a heroic last stand.
The reassuring thunk-thunk of mag-gun and Micro-x detonations and the sudden let-up of enfilade from the northern tower brought about a few seconds of reprieve as the hunters dealt with the reality of now becoming the hunted.

Surprise motha'fuckas! The assault and AI squads arrive and shred the now missing C3 command, prepping for retaliation on C3 squads firing from these ruins
Chak'sa designated targets and locked them into the HUD's of the newly appeared sergeants and rallied his troops. "Lock and load boys, The cavalry's arriving!!!"
The Chrysies drones take particular interest in the C3 on the southern flank, probing and testing their shard's defenses with another gliding uneasily close to the centre of Chak'sa's position. they had bigger threats to worry about though as the C3D1's wheeled about to fire another salvo into Dal-eth's men. This time he was ready; the C3D1's bought the bait and emptied their coils into the camo drone's skillfully projected imago field as his troops hit the deck.
"Tuk-rath reporting sir, northern flank secure" A few shots rang out after the message, C3 troopers executed after falling wounded in the brutal hand to hand ensuing in the ruins. Chak'sa expected nothing less from his men.
Seeing the C3D1's advance into range of the Infiltrator squad, defying their imagos with close-range scanners, he hurled himself off the floor and grabbed the reflex armour of the man next to him, dragging him to his feet. Their plasma fire shredded the C3D1's, but not before they'd loosed a close range salvo into the infiltrators. Medics dragged horrendously burnt bodies back from the railings, hitting them with stim injectors and nano-gels as the C3D1s fell back to Chrysies in a rain of burning debris.
Their forces broken and their siege lifted, the remaining Concord retreat....

Final scores: Algoryn 3, Concord 0, Chryseis 1

Really good mission here, thoroughly enjoyed it. My central forces took an absolute kicking and i was desperate for my reinforcements, having 4 pins on the command squad and several on my medics with a chryseis drone in the middle of my formation on the platform!!
One bad dice and it would have been a very very different game.
My medic and medi drone team were absolute gold, without them my boys would have been shredded. they've proved to be an absolute auto-take, vastly increasing my guy's durability for minimal cost which was invaluable for this mission especially.
Great game and Ian was plagued by bad dice, my constant "down" orders and my medic re-rolls really frustrating his ability to land shots or make them count when they did get through.

We're getting the hang of the game and really enjoying it, having to reference rules sections now getting rarer and rarer :-)
